Sea Change Sussex has completed the first stage of the development of the Queensway Gateway – installing drainage and strengthening the ground to support the forthcoming road (as shown).
The Queensway Gateway road is designed to connect Hastings’ Queensway with Sedlescombe Road North to provide improved local transport flows and access to new employment sites, so supporting job creation.
The initial phase of works, undertaken by engineering firm CA Blackwell Group, involved:
- excavating the soil and mixing it with cement and lime
- compacting around 20,000 cubic metres of this material to form a hard crust on which the road embankment will be built
- installing a 1,500-metre system of land drains beneath the treated soil
The next stage, to be delivered by civil engineering company Breheny, will start soon and focus on building the road embankment.
